Presiding over her first George Washington's Birthday Convocation, Washington College President Sheila Bair said that the annual ceremony was a chance to revisit the principles of virtue and citizenship that Washington epitomized, and to honor those who demonstrate those ideals. Among the honorees were Richard Gillin, English literature professor, for his 42 years of service; as well as psychology professor Lauren Littlefield ’91 and Phil Ticknor, assistant to the athletic director for communications and academic support, both of whom received the President's Distinguished Service Awards. From the larger community, John A. Moag, Jr. ’77 received an honorary doctor of laws, while the President's Medal went to Joseph P. Baker for his work with the Kent County Backpack Program, and Trish McGee ’81, for her work as associate editor of the Kent County News. Richard L. Creighton ’73 received the Alumni Service Award.en_US
