AbstractDr. Davy McCall, interviewed by Shane Benz, Rachel Brown, Michael Buckley, and Alex Foxwell on February 11, 2014, served as a Mandarin translator during the occupation of Japan and worked for the Allied Translator Interpreter Service (ATIS). McCall was in college when the war broke out. Based on his foreign language proficiency in French, he was selected for further language training and sent to the University of Chicago to learn Chinese. He spent the next two and a half years learning Chinese in an intensive program. In 1945, McCall was assigned to the ATIS and served in that capacity until he left the service.
